The Before.........

haha...excuse the clothes sticking out of the drawers!
nice storage bins in my bedroom right?? see what i have to deal with for the lack of closet and storage space in this house??

Ok, I need your help....I have this furniture in my bedroom....its old. well, as old as me....i believe my mom told me my dad and her got this furniture after they were married...and i am "almost" 30 so, it's almost antique! haha :) Anyways, I am sick of it. I don't want to get rid of it, but I have been thinking of painting it and "antiquing" it and adding new hardware....maybe doing away with the mirrors on the dresser and putting a different/old mirror above the dresser..was also thinking of doing a completely different headboard all together...idk!
I found this stuff by looking at some of the other blogs I stalk.... the website is: http://www.caromalcolours.com/distresssee.php it has these cool paint products/kits that you can do to furniture to distress it.....i.e. make them look awesome! i just don't know if i should try it?? what if i mess it up?? ... if you have ideas for how i can make this furniture look cool...let me know! :)

  1. Ok, so a friend of my "crackled" her walls in the kitchen and the concept was a great idea and I don't know if she just didn't do something right, but it was HORRIBLE! Crackle looks A LOT like the stuff on above website, so if you try something like that then just be careful. You actually by this clear stuff to paint over your work and then I THINK paint the next color and then when it dries the clear crackle stuff, well crackles therefore showing the bottom color. I WONDER if you just painted it one color and then went over that with a lighter color and then simply "roughed" it up with sand paper if that would work??? The bottom color should show thru. Wouldn't you think? IDK! I am not very good at this. :) Good luck.

  2. well, there is a technique where you paint one color and then use a wax stick and rub it on the edges you plan to sand and rough up...then paint the top color over....the paint will bead up where the wax is, which is ok...and then you sand with very fine sandpaper to bring the other color through.
